Anti-Referendum

We encourage citizens to vote 'NO' for the 2012 referendum to raise property taxes again.

Occupy Brandywine School District is a movement of awareness and accountability.

This movement encourages citizens to OCCUPY school board meetings and eventually the polling places only.  Dress in black to show solidarity.

This is a very peaceful movement to educate voters on their public school system.

This movement consists of parents, teachers, students, and alumni associated from the Brandywine School District of northern Delaware.

2012 Brandywine School District Referendum

Say 'NO' to increased taxes

We are not in favor of another tax hike during this most difficult economy.  The Brandywine School District administration want to raise taxes again in the form of a referendum.  Say 'No' to outrageous administrative salaries.  Say 'No' to wasteful and extravagant spending.

Your VOTE on March 28, 2012 (Wednesday) is important.

We do not believe that continually throwing more money at our failing public education system will fix it.  Change needs to happen from within our community starting at each home. There needs to be a paradigm shift in attitudes and thinking.  There are much better alternatives to the present day public education system.

Occupy Brandywine School District

We are parents, teachers, students, and alumni of the Brandywine School District (BSD). This OCCUPY movement is to:

1) remind the school district administration that We, the Taxpayers, are the final authority,

2) hold accountable the practices of these administrators, and

3) find innovative solutions to fix our failing educational system in Delaware.

We believe an independent committee of concerned citizens should regularly audit the school district.  The school board does not do this.  The district uses a stealth system to code funds and expenditures.  We propose that all purchases over a designated amount (i.e. $8,000) be sent to this committee; not for approval but for review and public disclosure only.  This disclosure is key for fiscal reform to curb wasteful and extravagant spending.  The creation of new positions and salaries would be reviewed by this same committee of volunteers.  The committee would post purchases corresponding with their reasons and necessity to an unbiased public site.

We believe in transparency for the politics and purchases surrounding our public... yes, PUBLIC, schools.  We believe all school board and other public meetings be available online as vidcast.  The district spent thousands in equipment for a television program at Mount Pleasant High School.  Let's actually utilize these resources to produce segments similar to C-SPAN.

FAQ:  This domain mphsknights.com was once the site for Mount Pleasant High School.  The school district abandoned this domain in 2010.  We picked it up in November 2011 for a bargain.  Ironic.

We stumbled upon this interesting document from 2008 regarding the name and history of the school district.  Click HERE to view.
