"The King and I"
Music by Richard Rodgers
Book and Lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II
Based on 'Anna And The King Of Siam' by Margaret Landon
|
|
East
versus West makes for a dramatic, richly textured and ultimately
uplifting tale of enormous fascination. It is 1862 in Siam when an
English widow, Anna Leonowens, and her young son arrive at the Royal
Palace in Bangkok, having been summoned by the King to serve as tutor to
his many children and wives. The King is largely considered to be a
barbarian by those in the West and he seeks Anna's assistance in
changing his image, if not his ways. With both keeping a firm grip on
their respective traditions and values, Anna and the King grow to
understand and, eventually, respect one another, in a truly unique love
story. Along with the dazzling score, the incomparable Jerome Robbins
ballet, "The Small House of Uncle Thomas," is one of the all-time
marvels of the musical stage |

"The Odd Couple" [female version]
by Neil Simon
Unger and Madison are at it again! Florence Unger and Olive Madison,
that is! Neil Simon's famous update of his contemporary classic starts
with a group of women friends playing their regular game of Trivial
Pursuit. This week, the group is meeting at the apartment of Olive
Madison, a divorcee who freely admits to being a slob: "I leave a mess
when I read a book." Late to arrive is Florence Unger, a stickler for
detail who would try the patience of a saint, and who has unfortunately
just become separated from her husband. As life would have it, the slob
and the fuss-budget decide to room together -- with hilarious results! |

"Grease, The Musical"
Rydell High's spirited class of '59 comes to the Mount Pleasant High
School's stage this spring! Hot rod loving boys with ducktail hairstyles
and their wise cracking girls in bobby sox and pedal pushers capture the
look and sound of the 1950s in this rollicking musical. While hip Danny
Zuko and wholesome Sandy Dumbrowski resolve the problems of their mutual
attraction, the gang sings and dances its way through such nostalgic
scenes as the pajama party, the prom, the burger hangout, and the
drive-in movie. Don't miss it! |

School Drama Play "Ashes Ashes, All
Fall Down"
Open to the public
Tickets: Adults $5 / Student $5 |
"Ashes Ashes, All Fall Down" by Joseph
Robinette
Suggested by the rock concert in Cincinnati at which several young
people lost their lives, this exciting, dynamic drama examines the lives
of six youths who are killed by the crush of a large crowd awaiting a
similar sold-out concert. It also deals with four other people who are
attempting to discover the reasons for the deaths. Despite its serious
nature, the play is alive with humor and hope as it pursues such
contemporary themes as hero worship, estranged relationships and the
need for family. "Ashes" is described by one critic as "a powerful,
intriguing, subtly crafted story. |

Other peoples' misfortunes have proven comic
gold for the entertainment industry for a long time. What exactly is it
about seeing someone onstage or on television going through the most
terrible hardships that makes us want to come back for more? Whatever it
is, that quality is present in abundance in Noises Off. |
|
Noises Off presents the story of a hapless
English acting troupe who are touring a production of a farce called
Nothing On. Nothing On must be about something, but it's hard to figure
out what exactly. Expect lots of doors slamming, confusions, and, of
course, plates of sardines. The encompassing story about the acting
troupe is every bit as convoluted. The questions about the actors -
who's in love with whom, who doesn't know what, why is everyone angry -
are every bit as deep (and irrelevant) as the questions about the
characters they portray. |
