ACADEMIC COMMON MARKET – This program is a tuition-savings agreement among 16 southern states that assist students whose major is not available in their home state.

AEMP FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP – An award valued at up to $2,000 will be offered to a senior seeking a career in the heavy equipment management industry.  Deadline:  5/1/08

AES ENGINEERING SCHOLARSHIPS – Seniors may submit an essay on one of two topics for this $500 award.  Applicants must apply on line at www.aesengineers.com/scholarships.php.  Deadline:  9/15/08

AFRICAN AMERICAN SCHOLARSHIPS – This is a list of 51 different web sites for scholarships available to African American students.

ALBERTSON COLLEGE OF IDAHO – IB Students can take advantage of this scholarship to Albertson’s College.  The awards range from $7,500 to $10,000 per year.  IB Applicants will be automatically considered after submitting their application. 

ALPHA KAPPA ALPHA SORORITY – Female African American seniors planning to enter an accredited college may apply for this scholarship.  A minimum GPA of 2.5 is required.   Deadline: 5/12/08

ALVERNIA COLLEGE – This University offers several scholarships for incoming freshmen based on their GPA and SAT scores. 

AMERICAN LEGION NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL ORATORICAL CONTEST – Any student who is a citizen or lawful resident of the U.S. may enter this contest.  The first place winner will be awarded $18,000.  Information about this contest is available at www.legion.org. 

ANNIE’S ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES SCHOLARSHIP – Students majoring in the Environmental Studies area may apply for this $1,000 scholarship.  Deadline:  rolling

ANY COLLEGE.NET – This web site offers students information on over 5500 institutions of higher education as well as scholarships.  Students who register at www.anycollege.com and click on “Win a Scholarship” are eligible for $2,000 award.  Also students can visit www.anycollege.com/newsletter to read about featured colleges, as well as tips to prepare for college.

APPLYING TO SCHOOL.COM – This free website, ApplyingToSchool.com can be used for our students.  Over 3,000 colleges will prescreen applications and notify students “if you are more likely to get accepted through a formal application. . . saving you time, money and anxiety”.

ARCADIA UNIVERSITY THEATRE ARTS – Seniors interested in pursuing a major in Theatre Arts may apply for this scholarship to Arcadia University.  Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and math and verbal SAT scores of at least 1,000.

THE ART INSTITUTE OF PHILADELPHIA SCHOLARSHIPS – The Art Institute of Philadelphia offers scholarships to students who demonstrate dedication and hard work.  These opportunities cover a broad range of areas. 

BARBIZON INTERNATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP – Students who participated in Barbizon’s Middle School Lecture Program are eligible to win a free four-year tuition scholarship valued at up to $100,000.

BETHEL AFRICAN METHODIST EPISCOPAL CHURCH SCHOLARSHIP – This $500 award will be given on the basis of verified financial need, scholastic achievement, character, and community involvement.  Preference will be given to African American Eastside Wilmington residents.  Deadline:  5/15/08

BIG SUN ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIP – This organization offers a $500 award to senior student athletes.  Applicants must submit a 500-word essay.  Deadline:  6/20/08

BRIDGEWATER COLLEGE – This College is offering scholarship funds for applicants who are interested in play intercollegiate tennis.

CHANCELLOR’S SCHOLARSHIP AT JOHNSON & WALES UNIVERSITY – High academic achieving seniors may apply for this $10,000 to full tuition award to Johnson & Wales University.

DR. LEROY CHRISTOPHE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – This $300 award is for a needy full-time student.  Deadline:  5/15/08

COLUMBIA UNIVERSITYColumbia University is announcing that it will eliminate loans for all students receiving financial aid and replace them with University grants.  For more information go to www.studentaffairs.columbia.edu/admissions/.

DAVIS & ELKINS COLLEGE – Students admitted to Davis & Elkins College and who are members of the National Honor Society will receive a scholarship of $5,000 per year if they maintain a 3.0 or higher GPA.  Also, for students interested in drama, music or art the school offers grants ranging in value from $500 to $3,000.   

DELAWARE INSTITUTE OF MEDICAL EDUCATION AND RESEARCH (DIMER) – Applicants who are Delaware residents and meet the premedical academic requirements of Jefferson Medical College or Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine may apply for this program.

MISS DELAWARE SCHOLARSHIP PAGEANT – This organization sponsors the pageant for women ages 17-24.  For information go to www.missdelaware.org.

MISS DELAWARE’S OUTSTANDING TEEN PAGEANT – This organization sponsors the pageant for teen’s ages 13-17.  For information go to www.MDOTeen.org.

DELAWARE SCHOLARSHIP COMPENDIUM – A booklet compiled by the Delaware Higher Education Commission which lists many scholarships and awards to assist with the cost of college.  Booklets are available in the Counseling Office or the Career Center.

DELAWARE SEED SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM – The SEED Program provides tuition for a full-time student enrolled in an Associates Degree Program at Delaware Tech, or the Associate of Arts Program at the University of Delaware.  Applicants must be a senior residing in Delaware, have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 and have no criminal record.

 

DELAWARE STATE UNIVERSITY EDUCATION MAJORSDelaware State University is looking for students interested in majoring in education.  Tuition is free (not housing).  Anyone interested should see his or her Guidance Counselor for more information.

DESALES UNIVERSITY TALENT SCHOLARSHIPSDeSales University offers scholarships for incoming freshmen majoring in Theatre, Dance, and TV/Film.  Deadlines vary depending on area of interest.

DEVRY UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM – Seniors applying to DeVry University may be eligible for several scholarships valued at over $40,000.  Selection is based on academics and SAT scores.

DISCOVER COLLEGES – This website, www.discovercolleges.com, offers free information on colleges and scholarships.  Students can also register for a scholarship drawing.  A website for Christian College information is also available at www.christianconnector.com.

UNIVERSITY OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA Mt. Pleasant has been notified that this University is offering free tuition and books as well as a $250 per month stipend to students 18-28 who are pursuing a career in nursing.  The student must work at Providence Hospital upon graduation.  Interested students should contact Ms. Beshon Smith at 202-266-5481 or email Bsmith@urbanalliance.org.

CHARLES DREW UNIVERSITY OF MEDICINE AND SCIENCE – This HBCU School waives application fees for all applicants who apply through HBCU Connect.  This school offers many health programs and over 80% receive financial aid. 

DREXEL UNIVERSITY MATH COMPETITION Drexel University is sponsoring an on-line math competition.  Interested students should go to www.drexel.edu/coas/math/contest/.  The top 10 winners will be invited to attend a meeting of the Mathematical Association of America meeting on November 10, 2007.  A $5,000 per year (renewable for five years) Drexel University Scholarship will be awarded that day.

DUCK TAPE STUCK @ PROM SCHOLARSHIP CONTEST – A $2,500 scholarship will be award to the couple who creates their prom attire from duck tape.  More details are available at www.ducktapeclub.org.

EAST STROUDSBURG UNIVERSITY REDUCED OUT-OF-STATE TUITION SCHOLARSHIP – The purpose of this program is to increase the number of highly qualified out-of-state students enrolled as mathematics, science or technology majors, including math and science education.  Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and rank in the top 25% of their class.

EDIS GENERATION III SCHOLARSHIP FUND – Two$1,000 awards will be given to seniors with a minimum GPA of 2.5 and planning to major in business or a construction related degree.  Candidates must be attending U of D, Delaware State, Del Tech, Goldey Beacom, Wesley or Lincoln University.  Deadline:  5/30/08

EDUCAID “GIMME FIVE” SCHOLARSHIP – Twelve times a year Educaid awards a senior $5,000.  Get the official rules at www.educaid.com.

EducationPlanner.org – This is a website developed to help students take career assessments, get information on careers, prepare for SAT’s, prepare and submit FAFSA forms, college searches and financial aid and scholarship information.

HELEN L. & DOUGLAS C. ELIASON SCHOLARSHIP FUND – Applicants must be low to moderate-income seniors with a minimum GPA of 2.5.  Awards are given four times per year. The amount of the award varies.  Deadlines:  11/1/07 for spring semester, 1/1/08 for summer semester, 5/1/08 for fall semester, and 7/15/08 for winter semester.

BEN ELLIS SCHOLARSHIP AWARD – The Brandywine School District is offering three $1,000 (one for each high school) scholarships for our current seniors.  The applicant must demonstrate financial need, be in good academic standing and planning to go to a four-year college.  Deadline:  5/16/08

ELMIRA COLLEGE KEY SCHOLARSHIPJuniors in the top 10% of their class and a minimum GPA of 3.0 may apply for this $40,000 award to Elmira College.  Applicants must visit Elmira College by 12/1 of their senior year. 

FASTWEB - www.fastweb.com is a free scholarship web site for students searching for financial aid.

FORT LEWIS COLLEGE - NATIVE AMERICAN TUITION WAIVER – Students who can document that they are at least 50% of Native Indian blood may apply for free tuition at this college in Colorado.

GOLDEY-BEACOM COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS – Several scholarships are available to incoming freshmen at Goldey-Beacom College.  See brochure in Career center.

GUARANTEED SCHOLARSHIPS – This is a list of several colleges and the scholarships they offer. 

GWYNEDD-MERCY COLLEGE – Many scholarships are available to students attending this college.  Information is available in the Career Center.

HARRY'S SAVOY GRILL HOSPITALITY SCHOLARSHIP FUND - A $2,000 scholarship for senior Delaware residents attending the University of Delaware and majoring in Hotel Restaurant and Institutional Management.  Award will increase each year.  Student must apply online at www.fastweb.com

WILLIAM RANDOLPH HEARST ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP FOR MINORITY STUDENTS – This scholarship is for minority students and is based on academic excellence and need.  Grants range in value from $2,500-$5,000.  Deadline for fall 2008 is 7/15/08

HOWARD UNIVERSITY – Several scholarships are available to incoming freshmen with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and SAT scores of at least 1170.  After applying for admission the student will automatically be considered for these awards.

INROADS – This paid internship program is for students of color who are seniors, planning to attend a 4-year college, have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and have an interest in business or science.  Eligible students may apply online at www.INROADS.ORG.

INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY BREMEN – Seniors who would like to be considered for a scholarship for this University in Germany may download an application from their web site.

THE UNIVERSITY OF IOWA PRESIDENTIAL SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM – Seniors interested in attending this university may apply for this award.  Applicants must have a minimum SAT score of 1320 (math and verbal) or an ACT score of 30 and a minimum GPA of 3.9.  The value of this scholarship ranges from $12,000-$52,000. 

JOHNSON & WALES CHANCELLOR’S SCHOLARSHIP – High academic achievers applying to Johnson & Wales will automatically receive scholarship consideration as part of their application process.  The awards range from $7,500 to full tuition per year. 

UNIVERSITY OF MAINE – THE GEORGE L. HOUSTON SCHOLARSHIP FUNDSeniors who apply to the University of Maine and plan to major in the College of Natural Sciences, Forestry and Agriculture may be eligible for this full-tuition award.  Applicants must apply to the University of Maine to be considered.

KEISHA MICHELLE MICHAEL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND – Seniors who will be attending a Historically Black College or University (HBCU) and have a minimum GPA of 2.5 may apply for this award.  Deadline:  5/9/08

76 MINORITY SCHOLARSHIPS AND LINKS TO SCHOLARSHIP DATABASES – This is a list of 76 scholarships for minority students.

CALL ME MISTER PROGRAM – This program addresses the critical shortage of African American teachers in South Carolina.  Clemson University, in conjunction with some HBCU colleges in the south, offers free tuition to African American males who will teach in elementary schools after graduation.  Online applications are available at www.callmemister.clemson.edu/application.htm.

THE MONDAY CLUB INC. SCHOLARSHIP – A $1,000 award will be given to seniors who meet the following criteria:  Afro-American, Hispanic or Native American heritage and a minimum GPA of 2.75.  Applicants must submit letters of recommendation, a short essay, and a copy of their Student Aid Report.  Deadline:  6/2/08

THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF HISPANIC JOURNALISTS (NAHJ) SCHOLARSHIP – This organization offers awards to encourage and assist Latino students pursuing a career in journalism.  Applicants must apply online at www.nahj.org/educationalprograms/nahjscholarships.shtml. 

NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL ORATORICAL CONTEST – Students in grades 9-12 are invited to give a speech to the local American Legion.  Winners of the state receive $1,500 and the opportunity to move to the national level. Information may be found at www.legion.org.

NAVAL RESERVE OFFICER TRAINING CORPS SCHOLARSHIP – Students interested in this program may get information about this scholarship at www.nrotc.navy.mil.

NORTH CAROLINA WESLEYAN VALEDICTORIAN SCHOLARSHIP – Any valedictorian enrolling at North Carolina Wesleyan will be given a full-tuition scholarship valued at up to $64,000. 

OHIO WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY – Several scholarships are available to incoming freshmen.

PETERSON’S GET A JUMP SCHOLARSHIP – Juniors and seniors may enter a contest for this $5,000 award.  Applicants must register at www.petersons.com/gaj/scholarship.   The codes for this sweepstakes are: High School Code = 080180 and the password is = HGC-CC.

WILBUR E. POSTLES SCHOLARSHIP – Seniors who have been residents of Delaware for at least four years may apply for this award.  Applicants must be of good moral character, demonstrate financial need, be in the top 20% of their class and have a minimum combined score of at least 1700 on all 3 portions of the SAT.  Deadline:  5/9/08

SAMSUNG AMERICAN LEGION SCHOLARSHIP – High school juniors who participate in and complete the Boys State or Girls State Program, and are a direct descendent of a U.S. wartime veteran who served on active duty during one or more of the periods of war are eligible to apply for this award. 

25 SCHOLARSHIP GATEWAYS FOR MINORITIES – This is a list of 25 scholarships for minority students.

SCHOLARSHIPTREE.COM – This is a web site featuring scholarship competition in music art, drama, writing, journalism, computers, dance and public speaking.  Awards can be as much as $10,000.  The web site is ScholarshipTree.com.

SCHOLASTIC ART & WRITING AWARDS – Young artists and writers currently enrolled in grades 7-12 may submit work in a number of visual and writing categories.  The highest award is valued at $10,000. Deadline: Regional instructions and deadlines vary.

www.SchoolSoup.com - This website claims to be the “largest scholarship database in the world”. 

THE SISTER THEA BOWMAN FOUNDATION – A full scholarship including tuition and housing to attend the College of St. Mary in Omaha, Nebraska for a single African American mother with up to two children. The applicant must be from low-income housing and be able to gain admission to the College of St. Mary.  She need not be Catholic.

CHRISTOPHER K. SMITH MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIPSee Delaware State Education Association Scholarship.

SOUTHERN METHODIST UNIVERSITY – IB Applicants to this University will automatically be considered for awards ranging from $4,000 to $12,000 annually.

ST. LAWRENCE UNIVERSITY – Applicants to this college may apply for four different scholarships valued at up to $15,000 annually.  Interested students should go to www.stlawu.edu.

THE UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE AT KNOXVILLE NUCLEAR & RADIOLOGICAL ENGINEERING SCHOLARSHIP – Five $2,000 scholarships will be awarded to seniors who have completed Physics in high school and plan to major in Nuclear and Radiological Engineering.

TOWSON UNIVERSITY MARCHING BAND/PEP BAND SCHOLARSHIP – Each ember of the marching band at Towson University will receive a $500 scholarship and Pep Band members will receive an additional $250 award.

THE UNIVERSITY OF TULSA – This University offers up to 36 hours of college credit to incoming IB graduates.

UNITED NEGRO COLLEGE FUND – Seniors with a minimum GPA of 2.5 who plans to attend a UNCF member college or a Historically Black College may search www.uncf.org for many scholarships.  Deadlines:  vary

UNITED STATES MILITARY ACADEMY AT WEST POINT SUMMER LEADERS SEMINAR – Outstanding juniors may apply for this one week summer program held at West Point.  Applicants should be in the top 20% of their class, be taking a college preparatory curriculum, have strong PSAT scores, and demonstrate leadership skills.

VENTURES SCHOLARS PROGRAM – This is a program dedicated to assisting underrepresented and first-generation students to pursue careers in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) sectors.  Students who meet these criteria may register a www.venturescholar.org to take advantage of their resources. 

VENUS BEAUTY ACADEMY SCHOLARSHIP – Students who have applied or will apply to the Venus Beauty Academy are eligible for this $1,000 award.

VOICE OF DEMOCRACY AUDIO ESSAY SCHOLARSHIP – Students in grades 9-12 may record your original 3-5 minute essay for an opportunity to win this award.  The national winner will receive $30,000.  Deadline:  11/1/08

WASHINGTON COLLEGE – All applicants that are members of the National Honor Society will receive $10,000 per year if they attend this college.

WILLIAMSON FREE TRADE SCHOOL – Male seniors interested in the learning a trade may apply to this school and earn full tuition, room and board.  They offer trades in carpentry, horticulture, landscaping and turf management, machine tool technology, masonry, painting and coating technology and power plant technology.  Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.0, demonstrate need and be of strong character. 

WILMINGTON CITY COUNCIL SCHOLARSHIPS – Residents of the City of Wilmington may apply for this $2,000 award.  Applicants must submit written request.

WINGATE UNIVERSITYThis University offers four different types of scholarships.  The requirements differ.

WITTENBERG UNIVERSITY – IB Applicants to this University will automatically be considered for awards ranging from $10,000 to $16,000 per year.  In addition to this scholarship, Wittenberg awards credit for scores of 5-7 on higher-level examinations.

2008 YOUTH OPPORTUNITY FUND – This award is for “Delaware residents who has experienced a chronic illness, which has lasted at least six months and has impaired the individual’s ability to pursue his or her education”.
