FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

How do I find a volunteer position?

Visit your guidance counselor, career center aide, or look on line at www.volunteerway.org where you can search for positions close to your zip code!

Visit community centers, churches, look in your local paper, and ask around! A lot of places don’t have the money to advertise and rely on ‘word of mouth.’

Is it true I can earn credit as a volunteer? How?

Yes, it’s true you can earn 1 credit as a Delaware high school student by serving as a volunteer in your community!

Just follow these easy steps:

1. Meet with your counselor, go over the program and receive forms you are required to submit in order to earn your credit (i.e. hours log, verification form, etc).
2. Log onto www.volunteerway.org if you need help finding a local volunteer site!
3. After completion of 90 hours of service, return volunteer forms to your counselor in order to earn your credit.
4. Counselor will send appropriate forms to Office of Volunteerism.
5. Once verification of hours is complete, Delaware Volunteer Credit will be added to student transcript.

I’d like to volunteer, but I am not sure where or what I’d like to do?

Volunteer work is a good way to expose yourself to possible areas you are considering for a career after graduation. You may want to get involved with issues that are important to you such as: the environment, children, or animal rescue. It is up to you what ‘feels right.’ There are various types of opportunities available – from clerical to working directly with people – it’s really what you think you’ll find most rewarding! The key is to jump in and get involved!
