The GREEN FLASH is a monthly publication of journalism from a students perspective.  The circulation is primarily for the students, teachers and parents associated with Mount Pleasant High School.

May 2008 - MPHS ranked 588 out of 1,300 top U.S. high schools

Mount Pleasant High School's Class of 2008 will graduate 210 students on June 1, 2008.  Of that total 98 or (47%) are scheduled to attend a 4 year institution. There are 58 or (28%) scheduled to attend a 2 year college. A total of seventy-seven percent (77%) of the total class are scheduled to attend college full time. Ten students or (5%) plan to go to work full time, four students or (2%) are joining the Armed Forces and twenty-five students or (12%) are unsure of their plans after graduation.

There are 31 IB students graduating this year. Every IB Diploma student has completed a MINIMUM of 150 hours of creativity, action and service as required by the IBO. Their hours totaled well over 5,000 for the 31 Diploma candidates. Projects ranged from stocking a children's library in Vanuatu for the Peace Corps to running Relay for Life and raising thousands of dollars for the American Cancer Society. We had two Governor's Youth Volunteer Service Award winners, the Claymont Lion's Club Outstanding Teenage Award winner, and two News Journal Superstars.

A total of 525 college applications were submitted through our guidance department. The MPHS Class of 2008 earned in excess of $4.416 million scholarship dollars to attend colleges and universities throughout the United States to include such prestigious institutions as Colorado College by Rebecca Spiegel, Harvard University by Valedictorian Cedric Yancey and the University of Southern California by Valedictorian Michelle Dee. Other institutions that members of the Class of 2008 will attend include: the University of Delaware, Wilmington University, Delaware State University, Del Tech Community College, Gettysburg College, University of Maryland, University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill, Hampton University, Morehouse College, Swarthmore College and the United States Naval Academy.
