School band hosted “A Knight of Music” which began at 6 PM. This
was a U.S. Scholastic Band
Association (USSBA) gold star event featuring many local high schools
at Frawley Stadium. The University of Delaware marching
band also performed a show to close the event. |

04/20/07 - The MPHS art department
contributed murals for the Meals on Wheels "Evening with the Masters"
event. Six of our large murals were auctioned off for the charity. We
raised a total of $1,250.00 for this well deserving organization.

DSEA AWARDS - The Human
and Civil Rights Awards |
|
04/02/07 - Two of our students took First and
Third Place for the
DSEA Human and Civil Rights Art Contest. Shania
Draine won 1st Place and Megan Smutz took 3rd place for their
art work based on the theme of Community Service. Shania's work was
based on educating children and Megan's was based on Relay for Life.
Both will be asked to attend the dinner in May to receive their awards
and recognitions. |

Marathon |

- The
Knights Against Tobacco volunteered at the Caesar Rodney Half
Marathon on Sunday morning, pouring 1200 cups of water for 1400 runners!
They then went to the finish line to help runners who finished the 13.1
mile course including teachers Scott Clothier, Keith Jones and
Robin Rimback. They also posed for a picture with Senator Thomas
Carper. |

Model UN Preparation
Conference |
03/06/07
- A group of IB Diploma and Middle Years Programme students traveled to
LaSalle University for a Model UN preparation conference. They attended
briefing sessions on their committee topics in addition to parliamentary
procedure and resolution writing workshops.
The Model UN will take place at the University of Pennsylvania on April
30. This program is sponsored by the
World Affairs Council of Philadelphia and Mount Pleasant is
the only Delaware representative out of the 40 schools participating.
Mount Pleasant is sending 4 delegations to this conference. The
delegations are made up of eleventh graders Alex Browne, Ian
Chambers, Michael Dee, Michelle Dee, Chelsea Edwards, Jackie Kelly, Zach
Leonard, Micah Shute and Rebecca Spiegel and ninth graders
Peter Andrews, Jacie Bryk and Phaedra Scott. |

Leadership Program |

03/01/07
- Jesse Allen, Joe Lichota, Erica Diehl, and
Anthony Borreggine attended the Business Student Leadership program
on March 1. They were voted by their peers from around the county as
presenting the best skit of the event. The students will again perform
the skit at their graduation ceremony with the CEO of CSI, Inc.,
parents, guests, and fellow students in attendance. |

Academic Challenge of Delaware |

- The
Comcast Academic Challenge was held on
February 24. Mount Pleasant High School was 4th runner-up and
winner of a $300 scholarship. A total of 22 Delaware schools took part
in this year's competition. Way to go! |

World Affairs Club
attend Mock International Court |

- Three members of our
World Affairs club were delegates to a
Mock International Court of Justice sponsored by the World Affairs
Council of Philadelphia. The students (Peter Andrews, Zach
Leonard, and Alexey Shiklomanov) participated in a
role-playing court case debating the territorial dispute between India
and Pakistan over the Kashmir region. |

Business Professionals
of America Competition |

02/23/07
- A contingent of students from Mount Pleasant competed in the
Business
Professional of America (BPA) competition on Friday, February
23 in Dover. Amina Mujtaba placed 4th in the State of Delaware
for her work on Spreadsheet Applications and Analysis. Amina is now
eligible to compete at the BPA National Leadership Conference in New
York City in May. Congratulations to Amina and to all our student
competitors! |

Interact Club helping
Ronald McDonald House |

- Members of Mount Pleasant High School's
Interact club served dinner on
Saturday, February 3 at the Ronald McDonald House in Wilmington.
Members spent most of their afternoon and evening preparing dinner for
the families of patients in AI DuPont Children's Hospital. The students
enjoyed learning how to plan and prepare a meal for 70 people and, more
importantly, helping families in need of support during a trying time.
The visit was coordinated by 11th grader Rebecca Burris. Club
President Rebecca Spiegel oversaw plans for the dinner and kept
club members organized throughout the dinner preparation. |

Awards |
11/28/06 - The Michael C. Ferguson Achievement Awards Scholarship
Program, included in the Educational Accountability Act of 1998,
recognizes students who demonstrate superior performance on the Grade 8
and 10 reading, writing and mathematics assessments administered as the
Delaware Student Testing program (DSTP). The following Mount Pleasant

- The Thanksgiving food drive was sponsored by the
Interact Service Club,
AVID, and
Student Council. Students and faculty donated items that will benefit
the Claymont Community Center. The faculty advisors were
Marqueia Davis, Dana Trojan, and Ella Burton. In
addition from the generous support of our high school staff and
students, Springer Middle School also contributed to the food drive. |

- The College Board has recognized several students from the three
Brandywine School District high schools who have earned AP Scholar
Awards on the basis of their outstanding academic performance. The Mount
Pleasant High School AP Scholars are Sylvia Dee and Min Yum. |

National Merit Recognition |
11/12/06
- Several students in the Brandywine School District were named
Commended Students in the 2007 National Merit Scholarship Program. From
Mount Pleasant High School, Katie Bittner (pictured right)
received this honor.
Commended Students placed within the top five percent of more than 1.4
million students who entered the 2007 competition by taking the 2005
preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. The National
Merit Scholarship Committee states that the recognition of talented
students and the key role played by schools in their development is
essential to the pursuit of educational excellence. |

Senior Court Restored |

|
10/27/06 - The Senior Court was restored to
a state of horticultural beauty this fall. Under the supervision
of James Cooper and Karen Bilson with a grant from
Duffield Associates, the special education students prepared the beds to
be planted then landscaped. |

TSA Award |
|
06/29/06 - The 28th Annual TSA conference was
held this year in Dallas, Texas from June 21-25. For the second straight year Mount Pleasant High School
received the TSA Top Chapter Award.
