National Board Certification
is administered through the
National Board of Professional Teaching Standards
(NBPTS). Nationally Certified teachers have demonstrated their
exemplary practice as measured against high and rigorous standards. The
process of earning National Certification requires a year-long
commitment to intense self-reflection and analysis.
National Board Certification
is offered to teachers on a voluntary basis and a National Board
Certificate is valid for 10 years. It is available to all teachers who
hold a bachelor's degree, have taught for a minimum of three years, and
have held a valid state teaching license for those three years. Support
is provided to District teachers seeking National Certification by the
Delaware Department of Education, the Delaware General Assembly, the
Delaware State Education Association, the Brandywine Education
Association, and the Brandywine School District.
As a result of 2002 contract
negotiations with the Brandywine Education Association, the District now
pays $1,300 to offset the application fee for teachers who are
successful in the National Board Certification process. The state adds
12% of the teachers' state salary for 10 years for successful
candidates. In addition, the District reimburses $500 towards approved
classroom supplies and materials and gives candidates two professional
days for portfolio preparation. |
